My Skills

As an instructional designer, I use a wide range of skills, from creating learning objectives to developing course materials and managing resources. My professional toolkit is packed with ID tools and technical skills, along with copywriting, research, and management competencies from my previous marketing career.

Instructional Design
I have a strong interest in learning science and educational psychology, and I continually expand my knowledge of learning theories and instructional design concepts. While I frequently use the following models and theories, my interests include many more:
    • ADDIE
    • SAM
    • 4c/ID
    • Scaffolding
    • Active learning
    • Social learning
    • Andragogy
    • Bloom’s Taxonomy
    • Understanding by Design
    • Staged Self-Directed Learning
    • Design Thinking for Educators
    • Multimedia Design Principles
For more detail, see my reflections on different learning theories and ID models from my graduate studies.
Content Creation

Writing and Editing

  • I prepare my own key messages, document structure, and initial copy drafts. I use tools like ChatGPT and Grammarly to polish my writing. Keep reading this website to see the results.😄

LMS, CMS, Authoring Tools

  • I've worked on teams with dedicated staff for developing courses in authoring tools and placing instructional content into learning management systems (LMS). I've used Articulate Rise and Tilda Publishing, a content management platform, in my school and personal projects. I'm also learning other authoring tools and LMS functionality to broaden my technical skillset.

Visual Design

  • While I prefer graphic and web design professionals to work their magic, I use Figma, Canva, Photoshop, and Illustrator to create infographics and other images for lessons and presentations when necessary. For example, I've developed the following graphics for a cyber-security course:

Video

  • When video professionals aren't available, I can help instructors create videos and screencasts using Vyond, ScreenPal, Loom, and other programs. Here are three examples of animated videos I created for a module on team development:

Audio

  • Though I haven't had to use audio in my work, I'm a big fan of podcasts and hope my Audacity skills will come in handy someday. Here's a series of audio vignettes I created for formative assessment in my graduate capstone project.

Artificial Intelligence

  • As an AI enthusiast, I created videos in 2023 using HeyGen and ChatGPT for a graduate-level module titled “AI for Education and Training” (my MSc capstone project). It’s exciting to see how AI-based technologies have progressed since then. I continue to track this progress and explore new AI tools.
Project Management
I've managed many projects, teams, and budgets in business and education settings, and I am happy to assist the team lead in moving the project along.
Research and Analysis
Instructional data and learner insights are key to creating effective and engaging learning experiences. I use both secondary and primary research during the analysis and evaluation stages of most projects.
Quantitative Research
I’ve conducted learner and instructor surveys, reviewed job market data, and analyzed instructional metrics such as completion and conversion rates, satisfaction scores, and net promoter scores, among others.
Qualitative Research
I’ve led dozens of in-depth interviews with students, instructors, and industry experts. Insights from these conversations have been invaluable in designing new learning experiences and improving existing ones.
I'd love to help with your project
I welcome opportunities to collaborate on e-learning projects and would love to hear from you.
